Global Goal School

"It is about weaving dreams into realities".

We are helping children grow and thrive through quality education in a sustainable environment where every child counts.

Children love to learn ....

...and dream of

- going to good and well established school

- having well trained and motivated teachers

- having access to resources like libraries, etc

- being able to get exposed to the other world

- having parents with interest and ability

But challenges...

.....in many communities parents

- work many hours of the day

- have low education if any

- have many children

- don't prioritise children's education

- need the child to help them at work

- are not able to help the child in their homework

What we do

- raise money for school fees for children whose parents have ended up in difficulties

- counsel children and parents

- teach parents on how they can help with homework - inclusive of making teaching-aids

- creating access to libraries

Councelling parents

Meetings with parents to discuss the way forward is a must if the children are to achieve their goals.

Parents with low or none education must not be ignored, on the contrary, with the right counselling they me well be the game-changer.

Parents learn to be good teachers at home

Holding workshops for parents where they learn how to make teaching-aids for their children - or how they can help with homework generally - has been a very successful practice.

Exposing the children

Childen that only see one side of the community cannot be ready to meet a challenging world. Especially if they grow up in remote areas or on an island among rural or fishing communities.

Hence, taking them to see other things, like a town, an airport or a shopping centre, may become the key motivating factor for their education.

Craft - using your hands

The use of hands is so important to stimulate the brain, but so neglected within schools.

Hence the project stimulates practices of training crafts like knitting, sewing, etc

Improving reading culture - the Library on Bussi Island

One of the main obstacles for children in rural settings and fishing communities is the lack of a reading culture. Few books, if any, are available, no newspaper - and people hardly ever read.

Thanks to a fundraising group in Sweden - Books to Uganda - a new library is opening up this year on Bussi Island catering for the community and managed by Bussi Junior School.
